Dozens of businesses have backed a campaign to create facilities for people with additional needs.

The team at the Rutland Refill Shop and Café in Oakham want to transform the top floor of their premises into a multi-use community space.

As a community interest company, the team run a café and refill shop.

They also work with adults with additional needs to give them an opportunity to experience life in the workplace.

Manager Michelle Inwood said: “The refurbishment would give us the scope to teach special educational needs students and enable them to develop more life skills.

“We would also use the space for school groups to come and learn about the environment, conservation and reducing waste.”

Volunteers are organising a fundraising raffle, which has been supported by businesses across Rutland.

Among the prizes available are vouchers for meals and beauty treatments, house cleaning, a gardening hamper, a brewery tour, a glass workshop, books, jewellery, shopping vouchers and a 30-minute visit from a Disney princess.

Raffle tickets cost £5 for a strip or £10 for three strips and are available from the Rutland Refill Shop and Café, Number Three Eco Salon, and The Eco Emporium in Westgate, and from The Grainstore Brewery.

The raffle will be drawn at 7pm on Tuesday, March 1 at the Grainstore Brewery.
