Feb. 9—Renovation efforts for the Fox Theatre are moving forward after being stymied and stalled in recent years by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the City of Centralia being the owner of the property, the city council and Historic Fox Theatre Restorations — the city's lessee for the property — entered into an agreement with the Economic Alliance of Lewis County, formerly the Economic Development Council, to move the work forward.
Historic Fox Theatre Restorations has been in the process of restoring the structure since 2009 with the purpose of returning it to a functioning multipurpose theater and performing arts center.
According to the memorandum of understanding the council passed at its Feb. 8 city council meeting, the Economic Alliance of Lewis County is stepping forward to assist Historic Fox Theatre Renovations in the completion of the theater's "rehabilitation and restoration."
As part of the agreement, the Economic Alliance of Lewis County will be responsible for serving as the fiscal agent and project manager for the restoration work.
For its part, Historic Fox Theatre Restorations will remain responsible for the overall project, and is still beholden to the lease it signed with the city.
